Julie Covington is an associate professor and program coordinator for the Doctor of Health Sciences program at Lenoir-Rhyne. A member of the faculty since 2013, Covington teaches in both the Doctor of Health Science and Master of Public Health programs. Before entering academia, she held clinical and leadership roles as a registered dietitian in both healthcare and public health settings. Throughout her career, she has been dedicated to advancing the critical role of nutrition in promoting individual well-being and strengthening community health.
Covington is a Fellow of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, and in 2015 was recognized by the North Carolina Dietetic Association as Outstanding Dietetics Educator of the Year. She is a former president of both the Western and Charlotte District Dietetic Associations in North Carolina and former chair of the Vegetarian Nutrition Dietetic Practice Group of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. In addition, Covington has served on boards of directors of the Charlotte Mecklenburg Food Policy Council and IMPACT Childhood Obesity.
